WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. — Authorities in Kernersville have filed a child abuse charge against a man who they say left his 6-week-old baby unattended in a car at a grocery store.

The Winston-Salem Journal reports 26-year-old Logan Dean Branham is charged with misdemeanor child abuse.

Police said an employee at Lowe’s Foods called Thursday to report that an infant was left alone in an unlocked car in the store’s parking lot, After paramedics put the baby in an ambulance, police say Branham walked up to the scene and spoke to officers.

Police said the baby was taken to Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center and was later released its mother.

Branham was being held Saturday in the Forsyth County Jail with bond set at $2,500. Records didn’t indicate that Branham had an attorney.
