HIGH POINT, N.C. — Candidate Tammy Holyfield has dropped out of High Point’s mayoral race.

In a post on her Facebook page, Holyfield announced Thursday morning that a “serious health issue” in her family does “not allow (her) to continue actively campaigning.”

“I know many share my disappointment, however my family must take precedence over my campaign at this time,” Holyfield said.

Holyfield thanked supporters for their generosity and said she will return any campaign contributions she has received.

“I wish the other candidates well. Each has entered this race with a sincere desire to help move our community forward,” Holyfield said.  “I hope I may be of service in the future.”
