BB&T jobs could be the upswing the area needs
GREENSBORO, N.C — When you talk about jobs in the Piedmont-Triad almost everyone gets excited. So when news of 1700 jobs from BB&T over the next five years, it was like Christmas in October.
The plan is to bring a variety of jobs over the next five years. The company based in Winston-Salem will move in to the old American Express building off of Regional Road in Greensboro.
American Express phased out its operations at that location last year.
UNCG Professor Keith Debbage says news like this is just what this area needs.
“Think about it. We had Honda Jet and Lenovo both announce expansions, now this,” said Debbage and feels we shouldn’t celebrate too much.
Debbage says the financial services market has declined recently and the unemployment rate for Guilford County is still high.
BB&T expects to start moving in workers by December.
