BURLINGTON, N.C. — Burlington police say four people were arrested Saturday night after they were caught stealing copper.

According to police, officers responded around 6:45 p.m. to reports of a breaking-and-entering in-progress in the 1900 block of Morningside Drive.

Officers stopped a suspect vehicle matching witness descriptions a short distance from the scene of the break-in, police said.

Investigators determined the suspects inside the vehicle were responsible for multiple break-ins at a nearby vacant apartment building. Police said the suspects “caused extensive damage while stealing copper.”

Police said the suspects caused thousands of dollars in damage to the building. The value of the stolen copper was estimated at $150.

The suspects, who all reside in Burlington, were identified as Anthony Easterling, 20, Richard Robertson, 22, Dedrick Daughtridge, 35, and Jessica Jones, 30.

They are each charged with six counts of breaking-and-entering, six counts of larceny after breaking-and-entering, three counts of attempted breaking-and-entering, and one count of possession of burglary tools.

The suspects received bonds ranging between $60,000 and $70,000.
