Suspect, victim identified after deadly shooting in Adams Farm area

GREENSBORO, N.C. — Police have identified the victim and suspect involved in the deadly shooting at an apartment complex in the Adams Farm community on Thursday.

According to police, at approximately 2:15 p.m., officers responded to Steeplechase Apartments near the 1300 block of Adams Farm Parkway in reference to shots being fired.

Police say once arriving on the scene, they found the victim, Anstin Cieria Alston, 28, in a stairwell suffering from a gunshot wound.

The suspected gunman, Brandon Lynch Bender, 27, the victim’s roommate, was barricaded inside their apartment at 1312 Adams Farm Parkway, apartment F.

Greensboro Police Department’s Hostage Negotiation Team responded to the scene and was able to take Bender into custody.

Alston was transported to Moses Cone Hospital where she later died due to her injuries, said police.

Bender was transported to Moses Cone Hospital, where he is being treated for self-inflected life-threatening injuries, said police.

Police say an investigation is ongoing.
