GREENSBORO, N.C. — A woman found an 8-week-old puppy on the passenger’s seat of her car Saturday after shopping at local pet store.

Karen Sommerfeld says she left her windows down so it would be cool for her dog when they returned from the Petsmart on Lawndale Drive. When she returned, she found the puppy underneath a polo t-shirt with a chew toy and collar.

“I think someone loved her and they weren’t able to keep her — maybe for economic reasons,” Sommerfeld said. “Or maybe, someone’s husband was like, ‘Forget it you can’t have that puppy.’ I don’t know.”

Sommerfeld says she went back into the store to see if the owner had placed the dog in the wrong car, but no one claimed it.

Sommerfled said she does not have enough room at home for a fourth pet. She plans to keep the puppy, which she has named Violet, until a permanent home is found.
