Moore County soldier killed in Afghanistan

FORT BRAGG, N.C. — A soldier from Moore County is among two who were killed over the weekend in Afghanistan, the Department of Defense announced Sunday. 

Staff Sgt. Justin C. Marquez, 25, of Aberdeen, died Saturday in the Chak district of the Wardak Province. 

A DoD spokesperson said Marquez was fatally shot while on patrol. 

Warrant Officer Joseph L. Schiro, 27, of Coral Springs, Fla., was also killed in the attack. 

The men were assigned to the 1st Special Forces Battalion, 3rd Special Forces Group at Fort Bragg.
