One killed in home invasion in Alamance County
ALAMANCE COUNTY, N.C. — Deputies are searching for a suspect who allegedly broke into a home on Monday afternoon, robbed the residents at gunpoint and killed one of them.
According to Alamance County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded shortly after 3:30 p.m. to reports of a home invasion at 5540 Lindley Mill Road.
Deputies say two people were in the home when the suspect broke through the front door and robbed the victims. The suspect then shot one of the residents before fleeing, deputies said.
Randy Jones with the Alamance County Sheriff’s Office says it’s rare for this type of crime to occur during daylight.
“Most of the time they are during the night or very early morning. It’s very seldom that you have this type of crime, in my experience, in the middle of the day like this,” Jones said.
Homeowners said they were shocked to see law enforcement all over their street.
“You wonder what’s going on in your neighborhood around you. You worry about your kids,” said Sherry Rudd, who lives on Jewell Road.
Rudd, who has four children, said the shooting makes her nervous.
“Oh, I will not sleep that well tonight just knowing something that close to home. It’s scary,” Rudd said.
The name of the victims have not been released.
