Road debris damages cars on I-73
GREENSBORO, NC — More than a dozen triad drivers are footing the bill for someone else’s mistake after scrap metal damaged several cars Thursday morning.
Around 6:45 a.m. cars began running over dozens of pieces of steel that had fallen onto I-73, most likely from an unsecured load on a truck.
The debris caused slashed tires, cracked fenders, and punctured fluid tanks.
The Department of Transportation responded to clean up the mess but have no where the debris came from.
Driver Dustin Owen wants to find the driver responsible.
“I’m pretty angry. Now I’ve got a $500-dollar deductible to pay,” Owen said.
One driver has already filed a tort claim against the state for the incident even though the debris did not come from a DOT vehicle.
