BUTNER, N.C. — Visitors from all over the world were in Butner to bid on massive machines during a two-day auction.

The News & Observer of Raleigh reported that the travelers were taking part in the grand opening for the facility operated by Ritchie Bros. Auctions, the world’s largest industrial auctioneer.

The facility features a 700-seat auction theater, where machines like cherry pickers, Caterpillars and mining equipment are sold.

Officials say many of the attendees at events Wednesday and Thursday had flown in from places like Canada, Jordan and Australia. The auctions were also broadcast live to a bidding site in Las Vegas and aired online.
