Free concert expected to bring thousands to downtown Greensboro
GREENSBORO, N.C. — Thousands are expected to be downtown this weekend as a local brew pub celebrates its birthday with a sanctioned 5k/10k run and free concert featuring the band O.A.R. in the evening.
Natty Greene’s Pub & Brewing Company will celebrate its 8th birthday on Saturday, drawing nearly 10,000 people to downtown Greensboro.
Beginning at 3 p.m., the birthday bash will be kicked off by a USA Track and Field sanctioned “Race the Bar” 5k/10 race and followed up with a free concert beginning at 5 p.m. The band ’O.A.R’ is scheduled to take the stage at 8:30 p.m.
Natty Greene’s won’t be the ones celebrating this weekend, area businesses are already looking forward to the crowds of people. Local bars expect to bring in big profits – comparable to St. Patrick’s Day.
“We’ll be fully staffed and prepared all day long — from 10 o’clock when our staff gets here, until 2.am. when we close,” explained Kevin Graves General Manager of M’Coul’s, a local bar.
The general manager explained it will be a “huge boost, especially in this time of year when normally there isn’t anything big going on.”
Greensboro Police spent time Thursday preparing for the crowd and will assign more officers downtown for the events.
“We’re going to have around 30 additional officers in that area to work the events combined,” said Officer Trent Walker.
