Walter Dalton rolls out NC economic plan

RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) — Democratic gubernatorial candidate Walter Dalton is trying to show he’s the candidate most able to improve North Carolina’s economy by laying out a plan he says would put people back to work and keep them employed.

Dalton unveiled his economic platform at a downtown Raleigh pub on Monday. The proposal includes creating a graduated tax rate structure for small businesses, a $2,000 tax credit for employers hiring a long-term jobless worker and funds to encourage manufacturing, biotechnology and infrastructure.

Dalton said the plan is more detailed than what Republican Pat McCrory has released and that McCrory supported GOP policies at the Legislature that led to thousands of government job losses.

McCrory’s campaign said Dalton is part of Democratic leadership in Raleigh that’s raised taxes and spending.
