Mount Airy police officer receives minor injuries in wreck

SURRY CO., N.C. — A Mount Airy police officer reportedly received minor injuries after a late-night wreck around midnight Saturday between a Mount Airy patrol car and a Hyundai.

The Mount Airy News reported that Sgt. George Daughenbaugh collided with a 2002 Hyundai being operated a 39-year-old Virginia man on U.S. 52. in the intersection of U.S. 52 and U.S. 601.

The paper reported that Daughenbaugh was entering that juncture from the western side of U.S. 52 and the Hyundai’s driver was headed northbound.

The paper reported that there were no serious injuries and police are looking for witnesses to come forward.
