GREENSBORO, N.C. -- Police are investigating a carjacking and shooting at a Greensboro diner.

Police responded to reports of shots fired at Herbie's Place at 3136 Battleground Ave. around 1:50 p.m.

Upon arrival, police determined Jerry James Joyce, 28, and Jeffery Anderson, 39, were robbed near Douglas Street.

The robbery suspect then ordered the two victims into a gold Lexus 300 and advised them to drive to their home where they could obtain more money.

Joyce then drove to 3136 Battleground Ave. where he went into the restaurant to retrieve keys for his residence. Police said this was to stall the suspect.

While Joyce was inside the restaurant, he started yelling that he was being robbed. Anderson was then shot when he tried to get away from the suspect.

Anderson was taken to a local hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries.

Police could not confirm if the shots were fired inside the diner or in the parking lot.

There were no other injuries reported.

The suspect fled northbound on Battleground Ave. in a gold Lexus 300. The vehicle is considered stolen and was driven by a small-built black male with a thin mustache and short hair.

Police said they're still interviewing witnesses.
