CHARLOTTE, N.C. — A couple of electronic signs used to warn drivers of nearby road work were turned off after they began displaying vulgar messages Tuesday in south Charlotte.

WSOC reports the signs were found near two separate construction sites at Rea Road and Colony Road around 6 a.m.

The signs had been reprogrammed to show the obscenities after someone cut the locks to the display boards, the station reports.

Road crews arrived to shut down the displays later in the evening.
