HIGH POINT, N.C. — High Point Mayor Becky Smothers recently announced that she will not run for another term as mayor, but she is not stepping out of the city’s politics entirely.

Smothers, who’s been elected mayor for all but four of the past 20 years, announced Wednesday she will run for one of two at-large seats on the High Point City Council.

Her current term will end in December 2012.  She told FOX8’s Brandon Jones in May that she would consider running for city council.

The general election is set for Nov. 6.
