Asheboro insurance agent suspected of fraud
RANDOLPH COUNTY, N.C.– A local insurance agent was arrested and charged on Monday, following an investigation that alleges he fraudulently obtained more than $9,000 in advanced commissions.
According to the NC Department of Insurance, Keith Donald Wilhoit, 54, of 3099 Trotter Road, Asheboro, was charged with one-count of obtaining property by false pretense on Monday.
Investigators allege that between October 2009 and May 2010, Wilhoit, while working as an insurance agent, fraudulently obtained $9,548.90 in advanced commission from Aflac Insurance Company by writing and submitting 61 fictitious insurance policies using the names of 37 individuals.
Wilhoit was placed under a $10,000 secured bond. He is scheduled to appear in court on July 17.
