Oreo shows gay pride with rainbow filled cookie
Tens of thousands of Facebook users expressed their views after Oreo posted a photo on Facebook in support of gay rights.
The photo of an Oreo cookie with layers of rainbow-colored filling was posted Monday night on the Oreo Facebook page along with the status update, “Proudly support love!” The caption under the photo reads “June 25 | PRIDE.”
The company also tweeted the picture with the statement “Celebrate your pride for love!”
The posts are reportedly part of a series of daily ads featuring images of Oreo cookies and milk in honor of the 100th birthday of Oreo cookies.
Some posts encouraged the company to actually manufacture the rainbow-filled cookie. Some said it was a cool picture but they’d never eat the pictured cookie. The post sparked sometimes-heated debate.
Oreo’s Facebook post had more than 214,000 likes, nearly 64,000 shares and more than 34,000 comments.
The criticisms appear to be part of the inspiration for a new Facebook fan page supporting the Oreo post, called “Support Oreo” at http://www.facebook.com/SupportOreo.
