Many people know the story of the Tuskegee Airmen and their accomplishments during World War II, but they weren’t the only ground-breaking African Americans in the U.S. Military at that time.

There was another group of warriors, from right here in the Piedmont, who blazed a historical trail. On Wednesday, the Montford Marines will receive one of the highest civilian honors.
