Kernersville EMS responds to fatal head-on collision with railroad equipment

KERNERSVILLE, N.C. – Police and EMS crews were dispatched after receiving reports that a vehicle had collided with railroad equipment.

According to police at approximately 2 p.m., a 92-year-old woman attempted to drive across the railroad tracks at the intersection of N.C. 66 and East Mountain Street when she collided with maintenance equipment that was working on the tracks.

Police reported that all railroad safety equipment was operating at the time of the accident.

The driver was transported to Baptist Hospital where she was pronounced deceased.

No other injuries were reported.

Police are investigating the crash.
