Woman dies from injuries in Davidson Co. wreck

DAVIDSON CO., N.C. — Officials said a woman died from injuries after being struck by an SUV on U.S. Highway 64 East Wednesday night in Davidson County.

Tonya Faith Reed, 38, of Billy Smith Road, was struck in the 2000 block of U.S. 64 East around 9:26 p.m. as she was crossing the road and a 1998 GMC SUV hit her, Pam Kearns with the N.C. Highway Patrol said. 

Kearns said she was crossing U.S. 64 and walking south to the parking lot of Exprezit gas station. Kearns said she was wearing dark clothing and walked into the SUV’s path.

Kearns said charges are not expected to be filed against the driver.

Reed was pronounced dead after being taken to Wake Forest Baptist Health — Lexington Medical Center with life-threatening injuries.
