85-Year-Old Robbed in Rockingham County
REIDSVILLE, N.C. — A robbery at a Rockingham County home Saturday has left an elderly woman black and blue after two men knocked on her door telling her they were there to do some work.
According to the victim, Ruth Knighten one man distracted her while the other made his way into her house.
“I started back in the house and when I did this big guy was standing here in my front door and I asked him…what are you doing standing here in my house….who are you?” said Knighten.
She said she’s lived in the home south of Reidsville for more than 50 years and this is the first trouble she’s ever had.
With signs welcoming visitors on her front porch the 85-year-old is usually hospitable to visitors but now she’s wary of whomever pulls into her driveway.
“If he comes back it’s gonna be too bad for him. I’ll tell you that right now.”, said Knighten.
During the robbery she attempted to get to her phone to dial 911 but the men grabbed her arms and shoved her down — leaving her black and blue on both arms.
The men got away with three steel lock boxes with what she described as valuables inside.
She had a warning for the thieves that she calls “rouges” and she hopes they hear her message, “If he comes back here he’s gonna be sorry because he’s gonna get a bullet in him.”
The men left in a gray pickup truck headed towards Reidsville. According to Knighten, the last three digits of the license plate could be “275” .
Knighten was treated and released from Moses Cone Hospital for bruises and swelling to her forearm.
Anyone with information about this robbery is asked to call the Rockingham County Sheriff’s Office at 336-634-3232.
