KERNERSVILLE, N.C. — A man is in custody after an incident forced police to close a road for several hours on Wednesday night.

Deputies responded to the 900 block of Piney Grove Road after a reported assault by pointing a gun. The incident allegedly stemmed from an argument between neighbors.

When deputies arrived, the suspect would not answer the door. Deputies went to the magistrate to obtain a warrant but were unable to make contact with the suspect.

Around 1 a.m., deputies forced entry into the home and pepper sprayed the suspect. He was then taken to a local hospital for medical conditions unrelated to the pepper spray.

The suspect was still in the hospital as of 8:45 a.m.

Neighbors were asked to leave their homes during the incident. Piney Grove Road was blocked for several hours while deputies investigated.

No other information was provided.
