Police: Gang member injures two with machete at bar

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. -- Police said two people were injured in a fight after a gang member brought a machete to a bar Saturday in Winston-Salem.

Jose Efrain Arevalo, 26, allegedly brought the weapon into the Los Dos Gallos bar at 329 Polo Road around 1 a.m. after police said he was kicked out.

Police said Arevalo is a validated member of the MS-13 gang. They said he arrived with several other gang members.

Police said both victims received serious cuts. They were taken to Baptist Hospital and are listed in stable condition.

The suspects fled in a white over blue Honda sedan and a machete was recovered at the crime scene, police said.

Arevalo was arrested around 8:30 a.m. and charged with two counts of assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury.

Police said his trial date and bond is currently pending. The investigation is ongoing.
