CHESTERFIELD, Va. — A Chesterfield County woman convicted of involuntary manslaughter in the suffocation of her infant daughter will spend four years in prison.

Robin Imani Varner, 25, pleaded guilty in February. She also pleaded guilty to felony child neglect.

The Richmond Times-Dispatch reported that Chesterfield Circuit Judge Harold W. Burgess sentenced Varner on Wednesday to 20 years in prison, with all but four years suspended.

Prosecutors said Varner placed several pillows and a blanket over her crying 5-month-old daughter, Josephina Lee, on Jan. 3, 2011, to muffle the infant.
