A home in Greensboro was damaged in a fire late Wednesday night.

Firefighters responded to the home at 4407 Brookhaven Drive in the Forest Oaks Neighborhood around 10 p.m. Wednesday.

The homeowner told investigators he heard a “loud pop” in the attic and smelled smoke. The homeowner then ran next door and told his neighbor to call 911.

“The flames were huge and coming out of the roof,” the neighbor said.

The neighbor also tried to fight the fire with a water hose until crews arrived.

Firefighters from Alamance Community, Southeast Volunteer and Pleasant Garden fire departments responded to the scene.

The house was heavily damaged in the fire but no estimates were available.
