FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. — A duck smashed through a school bus window as the driver was taking students to class Tuesday morning in Fayetteville.

The Fayetteville Observer reported that the animal went through the windshield, hit the steering wheel and struck the driver’s chest around 7:30 a.m.

The paper reported that the bus was taking 10 students to Elizabeth Cashwell Elementary School. No injuries were reported, but the bus received about $1,000 in damages.

The duck reportedly fell to the floor and got wedged under the brake pedal. The driver said he kicked the bird out and pulled over.

“A guy came running up and said, ‘It’s my duck,’ ” said Christian Gomez, the driver, according to the Fayetteville Observer. “He just appeared. I don’t know who he was.”
