GUILFORD COUNTY, N.C. — A school bus driver was charged following a wreck Wednesday morning in McLeansville.

The crash, which involved bus #1443 from Sedalia Elementary School and a Chevrolet Equinox, happened on Knox Road around 7:15 a.m.

Trooper Locklear with the N.C. Highway Patrol said the bus driver, 75-year-old Benjamin Parker Jr. of Greensboro, was charged with failure to yield. He will not face any other charges.

Guilford County Schools spokeswoman Nora Carr said five students were riding the bus, but none were injured.

Troopers said earlier that there was one minor injury, but have since said there were none in either vehicle.

Locklear said the bus was headed north on Knox Road when the SUV, which was traveling behind the bus, attempted to pass it in the left passing lane. Without noticing the SUV, Parker started making a left-hand turn and went into its path, Locklear said.

Locklear said Parker “had the responsibility to check his mirrors before making the turn.”

The scene has since been cleared.

Notifications are being sent out to the children’s parents, Carr said.
