SEYMOUR JOHNSON AIR FORCE BASE, N.C. — The war in Afghanistan is temporarily over for hundreds of North Carolina-based Air Force members.

About 300 airmen from the 4th Fighter Wing return to Seymour Johnson Air Force Base in Goldsboro on Monday.

They spent the last six months at Bagram Airfield in Afghanistan in support of the unit’s fighter jets.

A few dozen members of the 335th Fighter Squadron and their multi-million-dollar jets returned to the Goldsboro base last week to scenes of children waving American flags, spouses holding signs and comrades cheering them.
