WEST FALLS CHURCH, Va. — A fugitive suspected of killing a person execution-style in Winston-Salem 12 years ago was arrested Wednesday in Virginia.
Jose Cecilio Castillo, 43, was charged by the U.S. Marshals Service Capital Area Regional Fugitive Task Force in West Falls Church.
Officials said Castillo shot a person in the head in a parking lot in the 300 block of Motor Road on Feb. 8, 2000. The victim was not identified in any way in a U.S. Department of Justice news release.
Authorities said Castillo confronted the victim, but when the victim didn’t respond, Castillo became enraged and killed the victim.
Castillo allegedly left the scene in a vehicle and officials said the case went cold after a search for the suspect. Other details on the murder were not released.
Authorities said the case began to heat up again interviews, surveillance and other investigative techniques suggested Castillo was in the Falls Chuch, Va. area, leading to his arrest.
Officials said the U.S. Marshals Fugitive Task Force for Middle North Carolina is made up of investigators from several organizations including the Winston-Salem and Greensboro police departments.
