Newsmaker: Marty Sumner, High Point Police Chief
This High Point native has been fighting crime in the city for 27 years, and just days ago he became the top man in the department.
In the video above, Marty Sumner talks about the ways he’s already taking crime fighting in the city to the next level.
Since not as many crimes are happening across the board, Sumner estimates this program is saving the community as much as $40 million a year.
High Point Police still handle 5,000 domestic calls every year. The department has identified chronic domestic offenders, and they are in the process of implementing a “get straight or go straight to jail” strategy.
