DAVIDSON COUNTY, N.C. — A Lexington man has been accused of shooting a woman following an argument.

Deputies arrested 45-year-old Paul Butler after responding to reports of a shooting on Lanier Drive early Friday morning. Butler had been arguing overnight with Etassa Jerrell, a woman who he had been living with, deputies said.

Deputies said Jerrell ran to a nearby home after Butler threatened her with a shotgun during the argument.  Deputies said Butler then followed Jerrell and shot her once.

Jerrell was taken to Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center to be treated for the injury, which deputies said was not life-threatening.

Butler was arrested at the scene.  He has been charged with assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury, assault by pointing a gun, and communicating threats.

The suspect was jailed under a $50,000 secured bond.
