New Chief of Police in High Point to be sworn in Wednesday

HIGH POINT, N.C. – Chief Marty A. Sumner will be sworn in today as the 29th Chief of Police for the High Point Police Department.

Chief Sumner is a 27 year veteran with the High Point Police Department and was second in command responsible for budgets, grants, and strategic planning.

The ceremony will take place Wednesday at 3:30 p.m. in the City Council Chambers on South Hamilton Street in High Point.

Chief Sumner graduated from John Wesley College in 1996, and completed courses at the University of Louisville and Harvard University.  He has received awards including the 2007 Innovations in American Government Award and the 2008 National League of Cities Gold Award for his work in assisting to eliminate neighborhood drug markets.
