NC State student charged with DWI after crash with bicycle
RALEIGH, N.C. — A North Carolina State University student riding a bicycle was hospitalized in serious condition after he was hit by a car on the school’s Raleigh campus.
University police say Ross Everett Chapman was turning left onto a service road that leads to a parking deck just before 3 a.m. Sunday when he hit Steven Kendal Otto.
The impact of the crash shattered the windshield of Chapman’s car.
Chapman is also a student at NC State. Authorities say he has been arrested for suspicion of driving while impaired. His blood alcohol level was 0.12.
It wasn’t immediately known if Chapman had an attorney.
The university’s directory lists Otto as a senior chemistry major from Apex. Chapman is listed as a junior civil engineering major from Raleigh.
