HIGH POINT, N.C. — Two confirmed cases and one probable case of whooping cough were reported at High Point Christian Academy, officials said Thursday.

Officials said all three were students who have been treated. None of them were vaccinated due to exemption waivers, authorities said.

Whooping cough — or pertussis — is a highly contagious bacterial disease that causes uncontrollable, violent coughing.

Cases of whooping cough were also recently reported at schools in Randolph and Alamance County.
