DAVIDSON COUNTY, N.C. — Two people were arrested after deputies say they found five ounces of cocaine in the car they were driving on I-85 South in Davidson County.

Charles Williams Jr., 49, of New York, and Elisabeth MacMullen, 25, of New Jersey, were in a 2011 Hyundai Sonata when they were stopped for speeding on I-85 South at Mile Marker 91 in Lexington, according to a news release from the sheriff’s office.

Deputies said they found 141 grams of cocaine — worth about $15,000 — inside the trunk of the car after a K-9 scan gave them probable cause to search the vehicle.

Both suspects were arrested and jailed in Davidson County under a $500,000 secured bond.  They have each been charged with three counts of trafficking cocaine and possession of drug paraphernalia.  MacMullen was also charged with maintaining a vehicle to store a controlled substance.

The car had a Michigan registration.
