MONTGOMERY COUNTY, N.C. — An employee shot and killed three people and injured another Friday morning at McBride Lumber in Star, according deputies.

Deputies responded to the shooting around 6 a.m. at a warehouse at 618 McBride Lumber Road.

The suspect was not there when deputies arrived, but witnesses identified him as Ronald Davis.

Davis targeted specific coworkers in his shooting rampage, said Sheriff Dempsey Owens Jr.

Deputies went to Davis’ home at 103 Telegraph Lane about a mile away and knocked on the door.

Davis was found with an apparently self-inflicted gunshot wound to his head.

Both Davis and the other surviving suspect were airlifted to the hospital. It is not certain which hospital either went to.

Deputies said a note was found on a table at Davis’ home, implying that Davis felt someone at work was harassing him.

It remains uncertain how long Davis was an employee with McBride Lumber Company. The company manufactures pallets for the transportation industry.

Davis lives alone in a small cabin. He is believed to have used a semi-automatic pistol on him and a shotgun for the workplace shootings.

Investigators have spoken to some of Davis’ siblings. The identities of the other victims have not been released.

Owens Jr. said nothing like this has ever happened in Star that he can remember.

A press conference on the shooting takes place at 2 p.m. Stay with FOX8 as more details become available.
