Man dies after crashing into Burlington home

BURLINGTON, N.C. (WGHP)— A man is dead after running a car off the road and crashing into a home Monday afternoon in Burlington.

Nicholas Bartlett Higgins, 24, of Hampstead, was driving a 2004 Honda Accord west on South Mebane Street toward the Holly Hill Mall around 3:23 p.m., police said.

The vehicle crossed the median and struck the front of 2706 Blanche Drive, police said.

Higgins was found unconscious in the driver’s seat. He was pronounced dead after being taken to Alamance Regional Medical Center.

Police said the home received about $12,000 in damage and the Honda about $10,000 in damage.

No other injuries were reported in the single-vehicle wreck.

Police are investigating the cause of the crash and did not provide further details.
