Police think Greensboro man was targeted in New Year’s Eve murder

GREENSBORO, N.C. — Investigators believe a New Year’s Eve shooting that left a Greensboro man dead was not a random incident, according to a news release.

Walter Anthony Alston Jr., 26, was found in the street with a single gunshot wound in the 900 block of Tuscaloosa Street around 7 p.m., police said.

The victim was taken to Moses Cone Hospital by ambulance, where he later died, police said.

Police said investigators believe the shooting, which became the 26th and final 2011 homicide in Greensboro, was not random.

No information on any possible suspects was available.
