Police: Thomasville residents charged with child neglect

THOMASVILLE, N.C. (WGHP)— Several people have been arrested after a kidnapping report led police to find a 2-year-old locked in a bedroom Wednesday in Thomasville.

The toddler was found during a search at 484 Old Raleigh Road. Search warrants were obtained after a woman told police her boyfriend, Joshua Reed, kidnapped and choked her.

Police say the parents of the child trapped in the bedroom were not present. Several other children were also found, along with marijuana and prescription narcotics.

A total of seven adults were arrested after the search, six of which lived at the home.

Joshua Reed, 24, has been charged with kidnapping, assault, possession of marijuana. Michael Stanley, 24; Harley Conrad, 22, and Sarah Harris, 22, have all been charged with child neglect.

Jason Murray, 29, was charged with probation violations and Bradley Edell Stanley, 28, was charged with possession of controlled substances.

James Franklin Oxendine, 31, of 609 Cable St. in Thomasville, has been charged with resist, obstruct and delay of a law enforcement officer.

The search was conducted by the Thomasville police along with North Carolina ALE Division agents.

Police say the Davidson County Department of Social Services will place the children in other homes and investigate further.

More criminal charges are expected. No further details were provided.
